Tim Baillie Visit
On Tuesday 20th of February, Banff Academy were honoured to welcome London 2012 gold medallist Tim Baillie to Banff Academy. Tim Baillie, alongside his partner Etienne Stott, won gold in the C2 Canoe Slalom event. He came into Banff Academy to speak to the Higher PE students regarding the mental, physical, emotional and social factors that impact on his performance. He talked about having a growth mind-set and how that mentality helped him to cope with the disappointment of not making the team for the Beijing Olympics, having the resilience to cope with this and rebound to achieve gold in London four years later. He showed a video of his performance and passed his Olympic gold medal around to show the pupils and staff in attendance. The pupils in attendance found his story fascinating and allowed them to make the links to what is being taught in the Higher course to real life situations. We were very honoured to hear his story and thank Tim Baillie for giving up his time to come to Banff Academy.
